3 Nurse sa Saudi Nawalan ng Licensya at Natanggal sa Trabaho Dahil Sa Ginawa Nilang sa Bagong Silang na Sanggol

On Wednesday, three nurses were fired from their positions after a video came out on social media showing them squishing a new-born baby’s face to come out with funny faces while they were laughing.  The video became viral as it enraged many people particularly the mothers who thought they were already cruel to the innocent child.

The three nurses were working in a maternity hospital in Taif, Saudi Arabia.  They were initially suspended for maltreating the baby and few hours later, the Ministry of Health had announced they were fired from their positions and their licenses were revoked as well.

In an interview with Arab News, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, teacher of medical ethics at the National Guard Hospital claimed it was a natural reaction for people to sympathize since babies cannot talk and cannot speak out for themselves.

“When it comes to children being victims, it’s a very natural reaction for people to sympathize so strongly with them because babies are voiceless and they cannot speak for themselves; thus, adults feel the need to speak for them.”

On the other hand, he also emphasized that people look up to the medical sector, particularly the doctors and nurses as epitome of goodness who looks after the welfare of every individual.

“In retrospect, people who work in the medical sector, whether it be doctors or nurses, are under heavy scrutiny from the public. People expect them to respect their careers and responsibilities. To the people, doctors and nurses are the epitome of goodness, so they aren’t allowed any slights or shortcomings; their mistakes will always be exaggerated.”

“That doesn’t mean we are appointed as judges who pass judgment on wrongdoers. People should leave that to the authorities as they will assess the situation justly, instead of further harming the child and his parents, in this case.”

Meanwhile, aside from being removed from their positions and their licenses revoked, the three nurses were also prohibited from practicing their profession in any medical institution or health department.

As of this writing, the identity of the three nurses was not revealed.
